IF THE INSECTS DIE, WE ALL DO.
Insects are disappearing at rapid rates. 75 percent of flying insects have already perished in parts of Germany. Studies suggest that the wide use of agricultural pesticides may be behind this ecological catastrophe, resulting in grave implications for all life on earth. Insects play a crucial role as pollinators for various kinds of edible plants and as food for other animals. They stand at the beginning of the food chain, at the end of which we are.
WHEN THE MEADOWS FALL SILENT, WE GET LOUD.
In order to draw attention to the insect decline, the Berliner Philharmoniker perform together with very special guests: insects. The Insect Concerto is an original piece of music written by composer Gregor Mayrhofer for classical orchestra instruments and a choir of crickets.
A recording of the piece by the acclaimed Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonics is being sold on iTunes to raise donations for the WWF to support their work for biodiversity in agriculture.
THE FIRST SHAZAMABLE ANIMAL.
We make every meadow with singing crickets a charity event! Together with the music recognition app Shazam, we made it possible to shazam crickets in nature. Various insect sounds link to our project in order to raise donations and create awareness for the dramatic decline in insect populations.
Help us spread the word! Download the campaign kit and place the cricket-sized signs wherever you hear their music. Please take a picture and upload it on twitter, facebook or instagram using
